Every route to an MBBS seat open to a Tamil Nadu student, by total course cost. Government seats are the cheapest by a wide margin — abroad only becomes the sensible comparison once government and government-quota routes are out of reach.

Where the break-even actually sits
- Against a deemed seat, abroad wins on price. The median course abroad (26.2 L) is well under the cheapest Indian deemed seat (67.0 L). If cost is the only variable, that is a genuine saving.
- Against a government seat, nothing wins. If your mark can reach a government or government-quota seat in Round 2 or 3, take it. Cheaper, no FMGE, no visa.
- The FMGE discount is real. At a 23.9% pass rate, a large share of graduates cannot practise in India without re-attempting. Weigh the fee saving against years of delay, not against zero risk.
- Add the hidden line items. Living costs, flights, currency movement, and coaching for the screening exam are not in any brochure total.
