MBBS Abroad vs India — What It Really Costs a Tamil Nadu Family in 2026

A full MBBS abroad runs 19.7 L to 65.5 L for the whole course. A deemed-university seat in India runs 67.0 L to 1.60 cr. That gap is real — but it is not the whole sum, and the part nobody quotes you is the exam at the end.

Fees are indicative course totals for 40 colleges across 4 countries, as quoted for 2026-27 intake. Verify current fees with the university before paying anything.

⚠️ Price the exam, not just the fee. A foreign MBBS does not let you practise in India by itself. You must clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination — and in the December 2025 session only 23.9% passed. In the June 2025 session 29,327 graduates failed. Any agent who quotes you a fee without putting that number in front of you is selling, not advising.

The full cost ladder, cheapest route first

Every route to an MBBS seat open to a Tamil Nadu student, by total course cost. Government seats are the cheapest by a wide margin — abroad only becomes the sensible comparison once government and government-quota routes are out of reach.

What each country costs, end to end

Course totals only. Add roughly ₹1.5–2.5 lakh a year for food, travel, visa and insurance, plus FMGE coaching on return — budget the full picture, not the brochure number.

Where the break-even actually sits

📋 Before you pay a deposit, check the university against the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 — 54 months of study, a further 12 months of internship at the same institution, taught in English, and a degree that licenses you locally. A university failing any one of those makes the degree unusable in India no matter what you paid.
