NEET PG cutoff: qualifying percentile and last year’s marks
The bulletin fixes a percentile, and NBEMS converts it into a mark only when the result is prepared. The 2025 conversion is the best guide to what “qualified” will mean in 2026 — and the January 2026 lowering shows how far the pool was opened to fill Round 3 seats.

How MCC NEET PG counselling works
- Registration on mcc.nic.in with the NEET PG roll number, payment of the registration fee and the refundable security deposit (higher for deemed universities).
- Choice filling and locking — institute + course combinations across All India Quota, deemed, central and DNB seats; choices are the only thing the allotment reads.
- Round 1 allotment, then reporting at the college with originals. Not reporting to a Round 1 seat forfeits it; the option to leave or upgrade is decided at reporting.
- Round 2 for fresh candidates and upgraders; Round 1 joiners who opt for upgradation are re-considered on their locked choices.
- Round 3 and the stray vacancy round fill what is left; Round 3 onwards MCC weeds out candidates already joined in state counselling using data the states share.
- State counselling runs in parallel, a few days behind each MCC round, on the same NEET PG rank — in Tamil Nadu through the Selection Committee, DME Chennai.
Last year’s counselling dates — the pattern for 2026
MCC’s revised schedule of 17 December 2025 for PG 2025. All Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays counted as working days. The 2026 schedule will follow the same shape; only the dates move.

Tamil Nadu candidates: state quota MD/MS on the NEET PG rank
Half of the government MD/MS seats in Tamil Nadu’s government medical colleges, the government quota in self-financing colleges and the management quota are all filled by the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai, through its own online counselling on the NEET PG rank. Nativity, the state’s community reservation and the in-service (government doctor) quota apply there and not in MCC’s rounds; the Committee publishes its prospectus and schedule after the NEET PG result, and its rounds sit a few days behind each MCC round so that a candidate can hold one allotment and try for the other. NRI quota rules for 2026-27
MCC’s notice of 27 May 2026 restates the Supreme Court criteria (Anshul Tomar v. State of M.P.) that apply to UG and PG NRI seats this year: the NRI sponsor must be a parent or first-degree relative ordinarily resident abroad, or a nearest blood relative (real uncle/aunt, grandparent, first cousin) who is an NRI resident abroad and has actually looked after the candidate as guardian, backed by evidence and an affidavit. For 2026 MCC will demand legal proof that the sponsor is the bona fide guardian under the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890.
Frequently asked questions
When is the NEET PG 2026 result?
NBEMS's conduct notice of 1 July 2026 commits to declaring the result by 30 September 2026. In 2025 the result came 16 days after the exam (3 August → 19 August); this year the re-examination for the Jaipur Sitapura centres on 5 September is the reason a single result cannot come that fast. Score cards follow the result — in 2025 they were downloadable from 29 August, ten days later — and stay available for six months.
What is the NEET PG 2026 qualifying cutoff?
The qualifying criterion is a percentile, not a fixed mark: 50th percentile for General/EWS, 45th for General-PwBD and 40th for SC/ST/OBC (including their PwBD). The mark that corresponds to it is known only once the result is out. In 2025 those percentiles translated to 276, 255 and 235 out of 800; and in January 2026, for Round 3, the Ministry lowered them to the 7th, 5th and 0th percentile (103, 90 and −40 marks), which is how deep the seat pool ran last year.
When does MCC NEET PG counselling 2026 start?
MCC has not published the PG 2026 schedule as on 12 September 2026. Last year Round 1 of the All India Quota opened on 17 October 2025, two months after the 19 August result, and the academic session began on 22 December 2025. A result by 30 September 2026 points to a Round 1 in the second half of October or November 2026, but treat that as the pattern, not a date, until MCC's notice appears.
Which seats does MCC fill and which does Tamil Nadu fill?
MCC fills the 50% All India Quota in every government medical college, all seats in deemed universities and central institutions (AIIMS-type institutes run their own INI-CET), plus DNB seats through NBEMS. The other 50% of government seats, government-quota seats in self-financing colleges and private/management seats in Tamil Nadu are filled by the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai on the same NEET PG rank, with the state's own reservation and in-service rules.
Can I apply for the NRI quota in PG 2026?
Only if you meet the Supreme Court criteria MCC restated on 27 May 2026: the sponsor must be a parent, a first-degree relative, or a nearest blood relative (real uncle/aunt, grandparent, first cousin) who is an NRI ordinarily resident abroad and who has actually looked after you as guardian — and MCC will ask for the guardianship proof and affidavit under the Guardians and Wards Act during counselling.
What happened with the NEET PG 2026 re-exam?
At the iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura 1 & 2 centres in Jaipur (TC 41682 and 41683) the 30 August exam could not be completed because of an internal power failure attributed to the exam agency. NBEMS re-conducted the exam for those candidates on 5 September 2026, 3:00–6:30 PM, in Jaipur, with revised admit cards issued on 3 September. The main exam had 2,73,096 registered and 2,65,980 appearing at 1,111 centres.
