NEET 2026 Marks vs Rank — Re-NEET Result Analysis & Cutoff
The NEET UG 2026 (Re-NEET) result was declared on 16 July 2026. This page breaks down the official cutoff, the score distribution, the expected All India Rank for every mark band — and what your score actually means for an MBBS seat in Tamil Nadu.
What happened in NEET 2026 — the short version
The original NEET UG 2026 exam held on 3 May 2026 was cancelled on 12 May after investigators found that a pre-circulated "guess paper" overlapped with more than 100 actual questions, leading to arrests including NTA insiders. A nationwide re-exam (Re-NEET) was conducted on 21 June 2026, the Supreme Court declined to stop or cancel it, and the result came out on 16 July 2026. Aryan Gupta (Punjab) took AIR 1 and Panshul Bansal (Haryana) AIR 2, both with 715/720.
Official NEET 2026 qualifying cutoff — big jump over 2025
The re-exam was much higher scoring than NEET 2025, so the same percentiles now sit at far higher marks. The qualifying floor for General jumped from 144 to 213 (+69 marks), and for OBC/SC/ST from 113 to 177 (+64 marks).
| Category | Percentile | 2025 Cutoff | 2026 Cutoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | 50th | 686–144 | 715–213 |
| OBC | 40th | 143–113 | 212–177 |
| SC | 40th | 143–113 | 212–177 |
| ST | 40th | 143–113 | 212–177 |
| General / EWS — PwBD | 45th | 143–127 | 212–194 |
| OBC / SC — PwBD | 40th | 126–113 | 193–177 |
| ST — PwBD | 40th | 126–113 | 191–178 |
Qualified candidates by category: General/EWS 9,96,935 · OBC 81,111 · SC 29,947 · ST 12,452. Source: NTA result press release, 16 July 2026.
Score distribution — official anchor points
- 19 candidates scored above 700 / 720.
- 138 candidates scored above 690.
- 1,492 candidates scored 650 or more — so 650 marks ≈ AIR 1,500.
Compare 2025: the topper scored just 686, so 2026's paper rewarded well-prepared students with visibly higher marks. The practical effect: the same marks fetch a worse rank than in 2025. Judge your position by rank, not by comparing marks with a 2025 senior.
NEET 2026 marks vs expected rank
The rows marked ✔ are anchored to the official NTA score distribution; the rest are estimates built from that distribution and coaching-institute analyses. Treat estimates as a band, not a promise — ±10% is normal.

2026 rank ↔ 2025 rank — how to compare them correctly
All published cutoff tables (including our AIQ 2025 closing ranks) are on the 2025 rank scale — but the two years' candidate pools differ. NEET 2025 had 22,09,318 appeared / 12,36,531 qualified; Re-NEET 2026 had ~20 lakh appeared / 11,20,445 qualified. The same rank therefore sits at a slightly deeper percentile in 2026's smaller pool, and the fair comparison is by percentile position:
2025-equivalent rank ≈ your 2026 AIR × 1.10
| Your NEET 2026 AIR | 2025-equivalent AIR | Reading 2025 cutoff tables |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | ~1,100 | Compare 2025 closing ranks against 1,100 — Stanley-level via AIQ |
| 2,500 | ~2,760 | Madurai / JIPMER Karaikal zone in AIQ Round 1 |
| 5,000 | ~5,520 | Salem / Tirunelveli zone in AIQ Round 1 |
| 10,000 | ~11,040 | Newer TN GMCs in Round 1; mid GMCs by Rounds 2–3 |
| 15,000 | ~16,550 | Most newer TN GMCs reachable in Rounds 2–3 |
| 20,000 | ~22,070 | Edge of TN govt MBBS via AIQ (last 2025 closers ~21,000) |
| 50,000 | ~55,180 | State-quota reservation routes & private/deemed planning |
| 1,00,000 | ~1,10,360 | Deemed / management quota; BDS & AYUSH options |
Factor = 12,36,531 ÷ 11,20,445 ≈ 1.1036 (qualified-pool basis; the appeared-pool basis gives nearly the same ≈1.10). The College Path finder now applies this conversion automatically — enter your real 2026 AIR and it matches the 2025-equivalent against AIQ 2025 closing ranks.
What your 2026 score means for MBBS in Tamil Nadu
Anchoring against NEET 2025 closing ranks (full AIQ 2025 cutoff table here) — the AIR bands below already include the ×1.10 pool adjustment explained above:
| Your 2026 position | Realistic zone (General) |
|---|---|
| 650+ (≈ AIR ≤ 1,500) | AIIMS / JIPMER / Madras Medical College / Stanley via AIQ; any TN government college via state quota. |
| 620 – 649 (≈ AIR 1,500 – 9,000) | Kilpauk, Madurai, Coimbatore, AIIMS Madurai and similar via AIQ rounds; strong for state-quota government MBBS. |
| 600 – 619 (≈ AIR 9,000 – 20,000) | Newer TN government colleges (Karur, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Virudhunagar…) via AIQ Rounds 2–3; state quota is your main route. |
| 550 – 599 | Government MBBS possible via BC/MBC/SC/ST reservation and the 7.5% government-school quota; otherwise self-financing colleges under state counselling. |
| 450 – 549 | Private / deemed MBBS, BDS in government dental colleges (category-dependent), AYUSH courses. |
| Below 450 (but qualified) | Deemed universities, BDS, AYUSH, B.Sc. Nursing and allied health — counselling choice-filling strategy matters most here. |
Category cutoffs are more forgiving: TN state counselling fills 85% of government seats with BC/BCM/MBC/SC/SCA/ST reservation, plus the 7.5% quota for government-school students, where closing marks run far lower than the General figures above.
