🗓️ TNEA 2026 supplementary counselling schedule

DoTE has published the official supplementary counselling schedule. Registration closed on 31 August 2026; if you registered, these are the dates that now matter. Everyone in the supplementary rank list is competing for the 53,699 seats left vacant after Round 3.

Supplementary counselling — Academic, Govt. School 7.5% & Vocational

SCA to SC conversion counselling

Tamil Nadu reserves 18% of seats for Scheduled Castes, and inside that 18% there is a 3% preference for Arunthathiyars (SCA). SCA seats that are still unfilled once the SCA candidates in the rank list are exhausted are converted to SC and allotted to Scheduled Caste candidates — and this short round, immediately after the supplementary round, is where that happens. 3,370 SCA seats were vacant after Round 3 across 386 colleges. 🪑 TNEA 2026 vacancy after Round 3 — seats still available

DoTE has published the academic vacancy position after Round 3 counselling. These are the seats that go into supplementary counselling. In total 53,699 seats remain vacant across 391 colleges and 72 branches — roughly half of what was left after Round 2, but still a large pool in the general quota.

391 colleges have general-quota vacancy; only 28 colleges still have govt school 7.5% vacancy — that quota is all but exhausted, and what is left sits only in SCA and ST.

Even the most in-demand branches still have seats left after Round 3 — CSE alone has more than 9,000 general seats vacant across 355 colleges.

How the TNEA cutoff is calculated

TNEA admission is based on your cutoff out of 200, computed from your Class 12 (HSC) marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry:

For example, a student scoring Maths 95, Physics 90 and Chemistry 88 gets a cutoff of 95 + 45 + 44 = 184 out of 200. The higher your cutoff, the better your rank and college options.

TNEA counselling process

1. Registration — apply on the official TNEA portal and upload your certificates after Class 12 results.
2. Certificate verification — get documents verified online or at a Facilitation Centre (TFC).
3. Rank list — TNEA publishes the rank list based on cutoff and community.
4. Choice filling & locking — select colleges and branches in preference order during your rank-based slot.
5. Allotment & confirmation — accept the allotted seat, pay the fee and report to the college.

Choosing the right branch

The most sought-after branches in Tamil Nadu engineering colleges include Computer Science (CSE), Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication (ECE), Electrical (EEE), Mechanical and Civil. CSE and AI & Data Science typically have the highest cutoffs. Balance your interest, career goals and realistic cutoff when ordering choices.

Choice-filling strategy

• Order by true preference — best college + branch first; the system tries your top choices before lower ones.
• Use a 3-band list — ambitious (slightly above your cutoff), realistic (around your cutoff) and safe (below) so you always get an allotment.
• Branch vs college — decide early whether a better branch or a better college matters more to you, and order accordingly.
• Fill enough choices — don't lock too short a list, especially in early rounds.
• Check the live vacancy first — for supplementary counselling, order your choices around the seats actually still vacant after Round 3. A college-branch with hundreds of open seats in your community is a far safer choice than one with two or three.
