Chennai, 18 September 2026. The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education & Research, has extended Round 2 of the Tamil Nadu MBBS/BDS counselling by one day. Under Notification No.27 dated 18 September 2026, allotted candidates can download the provisional allotment order until 12:00 noon on 19 September and report to the allotted college until 5:00 PM on 19 September. The original deadline was 18 September (3:00 PM for the order, 5:00 PM for joining).
The Committee cites two reasons: representations from candidates, and the All India Quota state-counselling schedule published by MCC on 14 September, which itself sets 19 September as the last date of joining for state Round 2.
Who this helps. Round 2 allotted 5,173 seats afresh or by upgrade across the government-quota and management/NRI lists (2,964 fresh, 2,209 upgraded, 4,998 retained). Any of them who missed Thursday now has Friday. An upgraded candidate must still collect certificates from the Round 1 college with the relinquishment letter before joining the new one.
What it means for Round 3. Seats not joined by 5 PM on 19 September fall into the Round 3 vacancy, along with Round 1 seats resigned through the portal; the Committee publishes that vacancy college-wise before Round 3, which MCC's frame places between 28 September and 9 October.
