Vacancy is shown the way the Selection Committee publishes it at this stage: government quota as one figure, management quota split into its own categories. The last column is how much of that group Round 1 filled.

How much Round 1 actually filled
Three positions have been published, and the difference between them is what each stage allotted. Keeping them apart matters: lumping special-category allotment in with Round 1 credits the round with seats it never touched.

Two colleges joined the list after the matrix was published — APS Medical College, Kancheepuram and Rajas Dental College, Tirunelveli — and three colleges already on it had seats added. Those seats are counted as added, never as filled, which is why the pool Round 1 worked with is larger than the 24 August position.

Government seats: 96% gone in one round
Government medical colleges allotted 96.1% of their seats in Round 1. Six have nothing left at all — Karur, Tiruppur, Sivagangai, Thiruvarur, Thiruvannamalai and Erode. Of the 153 seats still shown, 71 are at Madras Medical College alone, so across the other 35 government medical colleges there are 82 seats between them.
Government dental behaves nothing like it. Government BDS filled 57.7%, leaving 82 of 194 seats vacant. If you are open to BDS, a government dental seat is a far more realistic target in Round 2 than a government MBBS seat.
Where the seats actually are
Almost every remaining seat is private, and inside private colleges the two quotas behave very differently. Government quota in a self-financing college is filled at government-quota fees through this same counselling, and it moves: self-financing medical filled 62.9% of it. Management quota, at management fees, moves far more slowly — 41.9% in self-financing medical, 29.8% in self-financing dental and 12.4% in state private universities.
The practical reading for Round 2: if your rank is nowhere near a government seat, the government quota inside a private college is the seat worth chasing, and there are still hundreds of them open.
Why there is no community-wise vacancy list
Before Round 1 the Committee publishes government quota broken into OC, BC, BCM, MBC&DNC, SC, SCA and ST. In the vacancy position published after Round 1 it does not — government quota is printed as a single undivided number for every college. That community split simply does not exist in the published document at this stage, so it is not shown here. The pre-Round-1 community-wise matrix is on the seat matrix page if you need the starting position.
The one exception is the 7.5% pool, where the Committee still prints the communities that have a seat left.
The 7.5% government-school pool
This is the hardest-filling stream in Tamil Nadu. It went from 614 seats to 70 — an 88.6% fill in a single round. What is left is 2 government MBBS seats, 32 in self-financing medical, 2 in a private university, 2 in government dental and 32 in self-financing dental.
College-wise and quota-wise vacancy after Round 1
Every college the Selection Committee still shows a seat in, with the vacancy split by quota. Type a college name or pick a college type to filter. Colleges are ordered by seats left; one that filled completely in Round 1 is not listed by the Committee at all, so it does not appear here.

What to do with this before Round 2
Do not fill choices against the old matrix. The pre-Round-1 seat matrix shows 9,820 seats; that is not what is available now. The 3,514 figure on this page is the one Round 2 allots from.
Include government-quota seats in private colleges. They are at government-quota fees, they are filled in this counselling, and they are the largest realistic block still open.

How many MBBS seats are vacant in Tamil Nadu after Round 1 2026?
3,514 seats are still vacant in the 92.5% general pool and 70 in the 7.5% Tamil Nadu government-school pool, across MBBS and BDS together — the Selection Committee’s tentative position as on 10 September 2026. Of those 3,514, only 153 are in government medical colleges; the overwhelming majority are in self-financing colleges and state private universities.
Are there any government MBBS seats left after Round 1?
Very few. Government medical colleges filled 96.1% of their seats in Round 1, leaving 153 vacant out of 3,919, and six colleges — Karur, Tiruppur, Sivagangai, Thiruvarur, Thiruvannamalai and Erode — have none left at all. Madras Medical College is the one large exception, with 71 still shown vacant.
Why is the vacancy list not community-wise after Round 1?
Because the Selection Committee does not publish it that way. Before Round 1 the government-quota column is broken down into OC, BC, BCM, MBC&DNC, SC, SCA and ST. In the vacancy position published after Round 1, government quota is a single undivided number. Any site showing you a community-wise vacancy for the 92.5% pool at this stage is estimating it.
Which quota has the most seats left in Tamil Nadu?
Management quota in private colleges. State private universities filled only 12.4% of their management quota in Round 1 against 47.4% of their government quota, and self-financing dental filled 29.8% of management quota. Government quota inside those same private colleges moves far faster, because it is filled at government-quota fees.
Did new colleges get added after the seat matrix was published?
Yes. APS Medical College Hospital, Mevaloorkuppam, Kancheepuram and Rajas Dental College & Hospital, Tirunelveli both appear in the vacancy list published after Round 1 but in neither August document, adding 235 seats. Three colleges already on the list also had seats added. That is why the pool Round 1 had to allot (10,184) is larger than the position published on 24 August (9,820).
How many seats did Round 1 actually fill?
6,670 of the 10,184 it had, which is 65.5%. The 7.5% government-school pool filled much harder at 88.6%, going from 614 seats to 70. Read the fill rate by college group rather than the overall number: it runs from 96% in government medical colleges down to 31% in state private universities.
Will these vacancy numbers change before Round 2 allotment?
Yes. The Committee describes every one of these figures as tentative. Non-joining, seat surrender, fresh approvals and special-category movement all change them, and a revised position is normally published as each round is processed. Treat this as the position going into Round 2 choice filling, not a final count.
