How the Tamil Nadu pool is divided
Every MBBS and BDS seat in Tamil Nadu that is filled by the state goes through one of two counsellings. 7.5% of the seats in each college are set aside for candidates who studied Classes 6 to 12 in a Tamil Nadu government school; they have their own rank list and their own rounds. The remaining 92.5% is the general pool that everyone else competes in.
Inside each pool the seats are split again. Government and ESIC colleges are entirely government quota. Self-financing colleges and state private universities hand part of their intake to the state as government quota — filled at government fees through this same counselling — and keep the rest as management quota, which carries its own categories and its own fees. The tables below keep those apart, because they are the single thing candidates most often confuse.

This pool is entirely government quota — the 7.5% share is carved out of the government-quota seats of every college, including the self-financing ones and the private universities. There is no management quota in this stream.

How the management quota itself is divided
The Selection Committee prints these labels on its own tables: MQ general management quota, CM Christian Minority, MM Malayalam Minority, TM Telugu Minority, NRI the NRI quota. Christian Medical College, Vellore carries two blocks of its own, printed as CMC 20% and CMC 50%. Management-quota seats are not split by community.

Reading the matrix before you fill choices
Three things are worth taking from these tables before choice filling opens.
The government-quota seat in a private college is a real seat. Across both pools self-financing colleges and private universities put 3,495 seats into government quota. They are filled at government-quota fees in this counselling, and candidates who rule out private colleges on fee grounds often rule out these seats by mistake.
Your community column is your competition. A closing mark in one community says nothing about another — each community is filled from its own list against its own seat count. Read down your own column.
The matrix is a starting position, not a final one. It is tentative by the Committee’s own description. What is actually available to you is the vacancy position published before your round.

Frequently asked questions
How many MBBS and BDS seats does Tamil Nadu have before Round 1 in 2026?
10,566 in total across both pools — 9,952 in the 92.5% general pool and 614 in the 7.5% pool reserved for Tamil Nadu government school students. That covers MBBS and BDS, government, self-financing and state private university colleges, and both government and management quota. These are the Selection Committee’s own tentative figures as published before Round 1.
What is the difference between the 92.5% and 7.5% seat matrix?
They are two separate counselling streams with separate rank lists. The 7.5% pool is open only to candidates who studied Classes 6 to 12 in a Tamil Nadu government school; those seats are carved out first and filled in their own counselling. Everyone else competes for the 92.5% pool. A 7.5% candidate does not compete against the general pool at all, which is why the closing marks in that stream are far lower.
How many government quota seats are there in private medical colleges?
In self-financing medical colleges the government quota is 1,845 seats in the 92.5% pool, plus 150 in the 7.5% pool. State private universities add 305 and 25. These are filled through the same government counselling and at government-quota fees, which is why they are worth filling as choices even if you rule out management quota.
What do MQ, CM, MM, TM and NRI mean in the management quota columns?
They are the Selection Committee’s own labels: MQ is the general management quota, CM is Christian Minority, MM is Malayalam Minority, TM is Telugu Minority and NRI is the NRI quota. Christian Medical College, Vellore additionally carries its own CMC 20% and CMC 50% blocks. The expansions are printed in the Committee’s own footnote.
Is the community-wise split the same in every college?
The proportions follow Tamil Nadu’s reservation rule — roughly 31% BC, 3.5% BCM, 20% MBC&DNC, 18% SC, 1% SCA and 1% ST, with the rest OC — but the actual number in each college depends on its sanctioned intake, so small colleges show a dash in the smallest categories. Read the per-college tables rather than assuming a fixed pattern.
Will these numbers change after Round 1?
Yes. The matrix is described as tentative by the Selection Committee itself. Special category allotment, seat surrender, new college approvals and non-joining all move the figures, and a revised vacancy position is published before each round.
